TreatmentCurrently there is no known cure for epilepsy. Medications are generally the first line of therapy for epilepsy. There are currently over a dozen anti-epileptic medications available, offering many choices. The goal of treatment is to find the best drug that can reliably prevent seizures and cause no significant side effects. However, for approximately 30 percent of people with epilepsy, medications will not adequately control the condition. If medications fail to adequately control a patient’s seizures, there are specialized treatment options available. These options include Vagus Nerve Stimulation Therapy and the Ketogenic Diet. Epilepsy surgery is also an option that can be considered.
